How we support people with dementia

Care that starts with the person, not the diagnosis

Before anyone moves in, we visit them at home or in hospital to get to know them: their routines, their history, the things that comfort them and the things that worry them. That becomes a care plan written with them and their family, and reviewed as their needs change.

  • Help with personal care, given with patience and dignity
  • Medication managed and given by trained staff
  • Something to do every day, planned by our activities coordinator
  • Music therapy and gentle hand massage
  • Regular visits from the GP and the district nursing team
  • Time outdoors in our secluded garden and summer house

A home that is easy to live in

Everything on one level

Freckleton Lodge is purpose built on a single storey, so there are no stairs to manage and no lifts to wait for. Residents can move between their own room, the lounges, the dining room and the garden, which helps them stay independent for longer.

All 28 bedrooms are single rooms with an en-suite toilet and washbasin. Families are welcome to bring furniture, photographs and belongings from home, because familiar things help people living with dementia feel at home.

Familiar faces

As a small home, residents see the same faces every day, and our staff get to know each person well.

Families involved

Visitors are welcome at any time, and families are invited to a family meeting every three months.

A voice in the home

Residents have their own council, which meets every month to have a say on menus, activities and outings.
